Examination Information
Applicants for licensure as producers, or adjusters are required to pass (to the satisfaction of the Insurance Commissioner) an examination that measures the applicant’s qualifications and competence.
This requirement does not apply to the following:
- Applicants for limited licenses
- Applicants who held an insurance license in this State within the last one (1) year period
- An individual who applies for an insurance producer license in this State and who was previously licensed for the same lines of authority in another state shall not be required to complete any pre-licensing education or examination, if:
- a. The person is currently licensed in another state; or
- b. The application is received within ninety (90) days of the cancellation of the applicant’s previous license and the prior state issues a clearance that:
- At the time of cancellation, the applicant was in good standing in that state; or
- The state’s producer database records, as maintained by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) or affiliates or subsidiaries, indicate that the producer is or was licensed in good standing for the lines of authority requested.

The State of Hawaiʻi Examination Candidate Handbook can be downloaded without charge from the Pearson website at www.pearsonvue.com. You may take your exam online (through OnVUE online proctoring) or at a test center.
Veterans who take a Hawaiʻi insurance licensing examination required by the Insurance Division may be reimbursed for the cost of the exam. For more information, see Commissioner’s Memorandum 2017-11LIC.
